In Dave's words, from his daily Bookmarq sessions, shaped with Marqer.
On Tuesday, Democrats won control of both the House and the Senate. The new Congress takes over in January. I can't tell you what that will mean for jobs or the economy. Nobody can yet.
What I can tell you is what it's done to me. Honestly, it hasn't changed my job search much. It's changed my attitude.
I'm between jobs right now. I'm keeping my health coverage through COBRA, and it runs me $1,064.91 a month. That's the first thing any new job has to cover. Then rent, food, gas, the basics. On healthcare, I'm mostly waiting to see what happens. I don't expect much to change by January.
I'm also job hunting in a market where AI is a new kind of competition. So I'm learning to use it instead of only worrying about it. I'm using it in my creative writing, and I keep up with tech news to stay current.
Here's where I've landed. Things will change, for better or worse. That's actually what keeps me going. Whatever happens, I want to be set up so my goals stay mine.

Dave didn't start with a hot take. He started by admitting the election hasn't changed his job search much. It's changed how he feels while doing it. That's an honest place to begin.
I pushed back on one thing. A post that opens with one party winning can read like cheering for a side. So we kept the focus on change and uncertainty, not on who won.
Next, we'll check back in January, after the new Congress is sworn in, and ask the same questions. Did anything actually change for his coverage, his search or his outlook?

If you're between jobs too, what's keeping you steady right now?
